3 Mistakes People Make at the Casino (And How to Avoid Them)

Obviously, I love going to the casino, and I imagine you do as well if you are reading this. The lights, the sounds, that feeling like tonight could be THE night.

But, all of that excitement can get you into trouble fast. Here are the three mistakes I see players make (myself included at times) and how to avoid them.

1. Playing Without a Budget

This one gets people every time. You’re having fun, and before you know it, you’ve spent way more than you meant to.

Set your budget before you walk in.

And when I say budget, I mean an amount you’re genuinely okay losing. And when it’s gone, you’re done.

That one habit alone will save you from driving home with that gross feeling in your gut.

2. Chasing Losses

You’re down, and your brain says, “Just one more bonus and I can get it back.”

We’ve all been there. That little voice is so strong in your mind.

But the casino isn’t going to suddenly start paying because you have a “feeling.” Chasing losses almost always just makes things worse.

When things aren’t going well, take a walk, get some water, or grab a bite to eat.

Sometimes just taking a short break is enough to reset your mind to think more clearly.

3. Ignoring the Player’s Card

This one is easy. You’re playing anyway, so you might as well earn something back – free rooms, free meals, free play.

If you don’t already have a card, stop at the Player’s Club desk when you walk in. It’s super quick and adds up more than you’d think.

Nobody beats the casino every time, and that’s fine. Casinos are a place for entertainment, not earning an income. Set your limit and stick to it.

And don’t forget to use your player’s card so you don’t miss out on future comps and/or points.
