On March 21, 2003, a 25-year-old software engineer from Los Angeles won $39,713,982.25 on Megabucks at Excalibur in Las Vegas. Guinness World Records documented it as the biggest-ever slot jackpot win at the time, though Wheel of Wishes surpassed it 20 years later.
To be eligible for the Megabucks progressive jackpot, you must bet the $3 maximum bet. The anonymous winner had already played about $100 when suddenly, the symbols lined up and he won over $39 million. He chose to receive his payout via 25 annual checks for $1.5 million.

The Las Vegas Sun news outlet reported that on January 26, 2000, a 37-year-old cocktail waitress named Cynthia Jay landed a jackpot of $34,955,489.56 at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas.
She started with her usual $21, which didn’t yield any major wins. Just as she was about to walk away, she inserted another $6 and won the jackpot. Her total investment was $27. You must bet the maximum $3 to be eligible for the Megabucks jackpot.
$33,000,563: Megabucks at Terrible’s Rail City
38-year-old Rachael Renee Romanick, a slot player from Reno, Nevada, hit the $33,000,563 jackpot at Terrible’s Rail City casino in Nevada.
Talking to the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, Romanick told her friend on April 12, 2009, that she wanted to stay home for the night. Her friend insisted they go out and gamble at Rail City. She agreed, and that was the day she made jackpot history.
Megabucks requires the maximum $3 bet to win the jackpot. Romanick states she had been playing for about 10 minutes when she hit it.
