This Week: Ready, Set, Go For Early Black Friday

November 13, 2024.

The official Black Friday is still a few weeks away, but this year, stores have started dropping deals now because… why wait? We love it!

A lady with black hair is giving a thumbs-up while using her silver laptop. Behind her, images of shopping carts, clothes, toys, and home goods are displayed over a blue and purple background.

Last year was huge , with over 90 million people shopping online on Black Friday. Amazon alone pulled in billions during the shopping holiday, raking in record online sales with an 8% increase from the year before. And in 2023, overall Black Friday online sales in the U.S. hit $16.4 billion. This year, experts predict online sales will hit around $240 billion for the whole season. Needless to say, it’s going to be huge.

Retailers have wasted no time in kicking off early Black Friday deals. Target started their holiday discounts on November 1, with prices slashed up to 50% on toys, clothes, and appliances.

Walmart’s first Black Friday event went live on November 11 online, followed by in-store deals starting November 15. Amazon joined the early-bird game with a few pre-Black Friday deals in early November, with discounts as high as 62% off on goods like headphones, watches, security cameras, and more gadgets. Amazon’s main Black Friday sale kicks off on November 21.

Best Buy is pulling no punches either, and they started releasing doorbusters as early as November 8, dropping prices on 4K TVs and laptops with discounts reaching up to $1,000. If you’re in the Apple family, AirPods and iPads start at just $89.99.

For this year’s deals, don’t deal with the virtual crowds. Early Black Friday is the way to go. It’s projected to be the biggest shopping season yet, so beat the rush and enjoy the holiday without stressing over last-minute shopping. Happy early deal hunting!

This Week: Get Back in the Game With Squid Game Season 2 Trailer

November 6, 2024.

Do you want to play a game? Season 2 of Squid Games has just been confirmed – and we’re not playing around!

Netflix just dropped the official trailer, and it’s already racking up millions of views – over 15 million on YouTube so far. The game is about to begin, and fans are slipping into their red jumpsuits to face a new round of suspense.

Season 1 became a global sensation almost overnight when it launched in 2021, shattering Netflix records to become the platform’s most-watched show. In 28 days, captivated audiences streamed the brutal games and dark social commentary for a jaw-dropping 1.65 billion hours.

So, what kind of twisted new games are in store for Season 2? This time, determined Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) is back not just to win but to end the games once and for all.

Yet, he quickly realizes that “once you’re in, there’s no way out” as he faces new dangers and tries to convince others to join his mission. Familiar faces, like the elusive Front Man and Detective Hwang Jun-ho, also return, adding even more juicy tension to the already fraught landscape.

As for the stakes in Season 2… all fair in the game, right? With a fresh cast of competitors, the new season is primed to up the ante in every way. Fans can expect nail-biting suspense and even more psychological twists that made the first season so addictive.

After that, we can’t help but ask the producers, “Do you want to continue?” With a third and final season already confirmed for 2025, it sure looks like they do.

This Week: Have a Wicked Good Time This Halloween

October 29, 2024.

Feeling the chills because you waited until the last possible moment to plan Halloween? Don’t worry – you’re not alone in the last-minute terror. We’ve got a lineup of tricks (and treats) to help you shake off the panic and pull together a fun Halloween night, even if you’re starting from scratch.

An elaborate jester cackles with laughter as it holds up a movie reel and a pumpkin, displayed over a light blue and purple screen.

First off: costumes. Whether you need a last-minute look or just want to level up your current costume with some finer details, Spirit Halloween is your reliable go-to, and there’s still time to get your costume if you pounce on the website now. They’re offering $20 overnight shipping on orders over $35 with code TREAT24.

Once you’ve got your look locked, share it with the masses on TikTok with #halloweencostume, which already has an alarming 1.1M posts.

If you’re into a classic Halloween tradition, grab tracing paper and a pumpkin carving kit to easily carve a pumpkin. Then, set it out with a candle to set the mood for a horror movie night.

Speaking of movies, Halloween night is the ideal time to cower inside a dark room and scream in terror at larger-than-life monsters… AKA, catch a horror flick at the movie theater. Grab your buddies and head out to see one of the many scream-worthy movies out on Halloween, including Smile 2 and Terrifier 3.

And, of course, if you’re in it for the treats, now’s the time to stock up on some Halloween candy for yourself. Stores are already marking down sweets and chocolates, so make a quick run and treat yourself to a sugar rush that you don’t have to share.

This Week: Disney Premiere Pass

October 24, 2024.

What’s the best part about Disney World and Disneyland? The rides, of course. What’s the worst part? Most would say the dreaded lines. Starting October 23, the best part of Disney theme parks is about to sparkle with new enchantment.

Mickey Mouse strolls toward the right of a blue image with a dark pink arrow pointing to the right.

Visitors to Disney theme parks can purchase a new type of Lightning Pass that lets you skip the lines at all eligible rides for an entire day, called the Lightning Lane Premiere Pass. You no longer need to book specific times as you would with the regular Lightning Lane; just walk up and go!

At Disneyland in California, the new Premier Pass gives you access to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure so that you can explore all the wonders without the wait. Across the country, at Disney World in Florida, the pass is only available for guests staying at select hotels for the time being.

Of course, this kind of convenience comes at a price. At Disneyland, the Premier Pass will cost $400 for the rest of 2024, and next year, it’ll range from $300 to $400, depending on demand. Over at Disney World, prices will vary by park and date, starting at $129 for Animal Kingdom and going up to $449 for Magic Kingdom on peak days.

If that’s out of your budget, don’t worry – there are still cheaper options. Disney’s Lightning Lane Multi Pass lets you skip lines at specific rides for $32, and you can always use standby lines or virtual queues.

If you were considering an adventure before the rush of the holidays, this is your sign. Keep a twinkling eye on Disney’s theme park website to snatch up your Premier Pass the moment it goes on sale on October 23 and experience the magic of all rides and no lines – Weee!!
